YXY is the result of extensive screening of catalysts by using high-throughput experimentation technology. We have been developing breakthrough catalytic process technologies in collaboration with the world's leading oil and chemical companies. Based on our unique high-throughput experimentation technology, we have identified catalysts that convert carbohydrates into Furanics molecules in a very selective way. A number of important benefits

YXY's catalytic process is based on chemical catalytic process technology. In comparison to biological production technology, such as fermentation, our catalytic process has a number of important benefits:

 

• Speed (chemical conversion takes seconds to minutes, while fermentation takes several days; this has a significant impact on production costs)

• Adaptability to existing infrastructure (our process can be run using existing infrastructure in the chemical and refinery sector, avoiding major investment in new fermentation plants)

• Catalyst costs (typical catalyst costs in a chemical process is less than €0.01 per gallon of end product; for fermentation processes, enzymes are typically €0.05-€0.50 per gallon of end product)
