To get the technology to the point of large-scale production, Avantium needs to ensure that there is market demand for the products, and that it is able to supply these products at an attractive price and according to customer specifications. The pilot plant is an essential step in this supply and demand equation. On the one hand, Avantium needs to prove that its YXY can deliver at least the same performance as today’s products (‘prove the products’). On the other hand, it must be able to show that its proprietary technology can be rolled out in an industrial production environment at competitive economics compared to today’s products (‘prove the process’). Once Avantium succeeds at both, it will able to unlock the full value potential of Furanics.

 

Avantium will bring Furanics to large-scale production, working closely with its partners. 

The  YXY pilot plant is located at the Chemelot site in Geleen, the Netherlands.The objective of this pilot plant is to optimize the production process and to demonstrate the process at larger scale, as well as the production of trial quantities of YXY for product development purposes.
